Beauty to my eyes: The Dieline

This coming Fall, I'll be finally going back to school for Packaging Design (it took me almost 29 years to decide!). I'm so excited I can't even describe it.

I've been obsessed with packaging for as long as I can remember.
"Pretty design" always helped me decide what to buy ( kind of awful, I know, but it's the truth). So, for that matter I've been following The Dieline for quite some time (www.thedieline.com).
"The Dieline is dedicated to the progress of the package design industry and its practitioners, students and enthusiasts. Its purpose is to define and promote the world’s best examples of packaging, and provide a place where the package design community can review, critique and stay informed of the latest industry trends and design projects being created in the field."

I love the work they showcase there. I picked a few of the latest ones that I thought were just beautiful.

We're not sure how much water the paper could absorb, but who cares? We'll make it look prettyand then dump it, instead of just throwing it out in the first place!

I'm late, but I made it!

Hola everybody!
Sorry for being out of the loop for a while. I decided to take on a 9 to 5 temp job so I could make a little bit of extra $$$ to help out the business. It sucks because there is not much energy and time left for my creations, but what is another 2, 3 weeks gonna change in my life?

With that said...I haven't been checking my Twitter account very often. There is not much going on in my "Corporate America" life, and I don't want to just post uninteresting things such as "I just answered the phone and served coffee to this super rich guy".Nah!

But it just happened that I wasn't doing anything or feeling inspired, so I decided to check Twitter to see what's going on outside my cubicle these days.
I'm so glad I did because I then found out about The Score! swap in Brooklyn.(Score! is a roving pop-up free store). You basically join their e-mail list, gather stuff that you don't want anymore, drop it off when you come in, and grab as much as you can carry with you!
It was insane!!! What a great event!
The goodies kept pouring in and I didn't wanna leave. The entrance for 3 bucks (with rsvp) was the best money I've ever spent. I wish I had arrived there earlier so I could still grab some of Etsy's goodies. But I scored two amazing books I've been wanting to read for a long time and a vintage night gown that were worth the walk on a 90 degree day.

4th of July treats

So last week was pretty intense at work(bar) and that lead me to "no energy and time" for much soap and candle making.
I did come up with these little party give away, all natural Melt & Pour soaps, for the 4th of July celebration. They'll be on my etsy shop hopefully by the end of this week (that's the plan!).
Again, they can be done however you want it, in the shape that you want, for your perfect party.

Speaking of 4th of July parties, I was out for a few hours this past Saturday and I took a peak at Club Monaco's new summer collection, for those interested in fashion, and I have to say how much I love every piece. The all white outfits were extremely elegant and crisp, perfect for a summer party. If you think you can get away with it at a barbecue and not get messy, go for it! Otherwise save it for a nice cocktail party (or use one of their spring looks still available online).

The Beginning

THE STUDIO CREATIONS was born inside my soul a long time ago, but it's doors opened in January of this year (2010).
The idea when I started the project was to diversify my Graphic Design portfolio and be able to get some freelance work while I tried to go back to school and finish my degree in Packaging Design.
The "problem" in the process was that I started having too much fun with it!

For as long as I remember, I've making "things" with my own hands. My mother is an incredibly talented crafter and I learned a lot of the basics with her.

I began making my own soaps a few years ago when I started to concern myself with what goes in and on my body. There are too many chemicals out there these days and I didn't want any more of it on my skin. I went a step further and started studying the power of Aromatherapy. This way, not only my products would smell good, but also BE good for me and all my friends and family (I didn't think of it as a business back then).
So at first, I'd give these handmade treats as gifts, along with a greeting card I would design. The response was always so gratifying that I felt I could probably try and turn this passion into my full-time job.
That's how THE STUDIO was created.
I absolutely love to learn how to make new things, and I love spending the time and making every single piece a unique one, be it a candle, a soap, a lotion or a card. The more I make, the more I wanna make. My Studio has endless possibilities of creations. I feel like I never want to stop!
Everything is made in my little kitchen out in Brooklyn Heights, NY, with a lot of care and love. (My neighborhood is definitely part of my inspiration!)
